U.S. Imports of Copper Waste and Scrap Collapsed 39%
All totalled, 95.29% of all U.S. imports were shipped from the above five top markets, Census Bureau data said.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. imports of copper waste and scrap registered substantial decline, falling by as much as 38.72% year-on-year in the initial four month period of the year. The most recent data published by the U.S. Census Bureau denotes that the imports declined from $248.49 million to $152.27 million over the previous year. The imports of the material had recorded decline by over 21% in the full year 2019.
Through April this year, the leading source of import was Canada. The imports from that country totalled $83.04 million, which accounted for nearly 55% of the U.S. imports. The second largest supplier of copper waste and scrap to the U.S was Mexico, whose supplies totalled $56.76 million. The other key foreign markets were Dominican Republic ($2.14 million), Panama ($1.75 million) and Colombia (1.41 million).

Meantime, the copper waste and scrap exports by the U.S. recorded 16% year-on-year decline from $993.97 million to $833.02 million through April this year. The key export destinations were China ($106.39 million), Canada ($106.06 million), South Korea ($100.22 million), Malaysia ($87.79 million) and Germany ($66.2 million).
