Lundin Gold to Restart Fruta del Norte Mine in Ecuador
Lundin Gold announced that all staff must have to observe a seven-day quarantine period followed by a negative PCR test in order to enter the mine.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Vancouver-based Lundin Gold announced plans to resume operations at its Fruta del Norte gold-silver mine in Ecuador. The country’s largest mine had suspended operations on March 22nd, as part of restrictions imposed by the government to contain the spread of Covd-19 pandemic.
The miner announced that it has already shipped the concentrate and dore that were stored at the site since the suspension of operations. Also, it has already begun transporting stockpiled reagents, spare parts and other supplies from the port of Guayaquil to the mine site, said the press release.

Ron Hochstein, president and CEO, Lundin Gold noted that the company is in the last stages of finalizing the restart of mine operations, which is scheduled for Q3 this year. The reestablishment of transportation corridors has facilitated the company’s mine restart plans, he added.
Lundin Gold announced that all staff must have to observe a seven-day quarantine period followed by a negative PCR test in order to enter the mine. The same rules will be applicable for contractor employees also. In addition, the lengths of work rotations will be increased. The mine will follow other health guidelines and protocols including social distancing, use of PPE and regular, periodic disinfection of work place.
