Cascades, Inc. to Permanently Shut Burlington Containerboard Plant

The announced move is part of company’s earlier announced plan to optimize its containerboard business.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Kingsey Falls, Quebec-headquartered Cascades Inc. announced that it plans to close its Brown Containerboard Packaging facility located in Burlington, Ontario by end of July this year. The closure is likely to affect approximately 45 employees.

The announced move is part of company’s earlier announced plan to optimize its containerboard business. It will lead to consolidation of the company’s sheet plant operations in Ontario. The production from the Brown facility will be gradually redeployed to its other business units in Ontario. The decision will position its platform for mid and long term success in addition to improving productivity and reducing fixed costs, said Charles Malo, President and CEO, Cascades Containerboard Packaging.

The facility will permanently close no later than 31st July, 2020. The company announced that it will do the needful to minimize the impact of this announcement on the 45 employees of the facility. They will be offered the option of transfer to Cascade’s other business units. Those who are not willing to relocate will be offered support in searching for a new job in the region.
