DITCh Plastic Network Launches New Project to Tackle Africa's Plastic Waste Pollution
The DITCh Plastic project is funded by the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) and supported by the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): DITCh Plastic Network announced the launch of a new project to tackle plastic waste pollution in Africa. The recently launched initiative by a network of professionals aims to promote the transition to circular plastic economy in the region.
The project aims to bring together various websites, applications and innovative processes that work towards reduction, recycling and reuse of plastics. The DITCh Plastic Network will make use of its network and infrastructure to optimize these digital innovations to deliver significant contribution in tackling the plastic waste challenge in Africa. Incidentally, the region has witnessed significant progress in such applications over the recent years.
The project is headed by De Montfort University in the United Kingdom, with participation from Africa’s leading Universities like the University of Lagos in Nigeria, University of Namibia and Kigali Collaborative Research Centre. The other participants of the project include top UK universities like the University of Warwick, University of Birmingham and Aston University and organizations such as Chatham House and Plastic Oceans.
