U.S. Aluminum Scrap Exports Dipped
The country’s import volume of aluminum scrap too dropped significantly by nearly one-fifth through March ‘20 to total $166.87 million.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The recent statistics published by the U.S. Census Bureau indicates marginal decline in exports of aluminum waste and scrap by the country during the first three months of 2020. The exports during this period totalled $535.18 million, down by 3.44% when compared with the similar period in 2019. The U.S. aluminum scrap exports had totalled $554.26 million in Jan-Mar ‘19.
The top trade partner was India, which recorded 46.3% year-on-year surge in imports from the U.S. The U.S. exports to India totalled $113.16 million, accounting for nearly 21.14% of the total U.S. shipments. The second largest destination was South Korea, which imported $96.63 million worth of aluminum scrap from the U.S. In third place was Malaysia with imports from the U.S. totalling $73.78 million. The other primary importers were Mexico ($41.41 million) and China ($40.86 million).

The combined imports by the above five countries totalled $365.84 million, accounting for more than 68% of all aluminum waste and scrap exports from the U.S.
The country’s import volume of aluminum scrap too dropped significantly by nearly one-fifth through March ‘20 to total $166.87 million. The imports had totalled $207.31 million during the corresponding three-month period last year. The top five sources of import were Canada ($114.7 million), Mexico ($41.99 million), Guatemala ($1.2 million), South Korea ($1.1 million) and the UK ($1.04 million).
