OceanaGold Resumes Mining and Processing Activities in New Zealand
This follows drop in Covid-19 alert level from four to three by the country’s government.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): OceanaGold released operational update related to the company’s mining operations in New Zealand. This follows drop in Covid-19 alert level from four to three by the country’s government, thereby allowing resumption of additional businesses other than essential, subject to specified safety requirements.
According to company press release, it has resumed the development of the Martha Underground and other regional exploration activities at Waihi. It has resumed mining and processing activities at Macraes- the country’s largest gold producing mine. All resumed operations will follow all necessary safety protocols in alignment with the government’s directives, it said.

Meantime, all administrative staff and other employees have been instructed to continue working from home during the entire period of the level three alert.
Michael Holmes, president and CEO stated that the 2020 production guidance remains unchanged, mainly due to the Haile gold mine in South Carolina being able to operate at full capacity. The company is in talks with the Philippine government on renewal of FTTA and resumption of operations at the Didipio Gold-Copper mine. There are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 among its employees or contractors, Holmes added.
