Eldorado Gold to Restart Operations at Quebec Mine
Eldorado Gold had acquired the Lamaque mining asset almost 18 months back.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Eldorado Gold announced that it has resumed operations at the Lamaque underground gold mine, following the Quebec government’s decision to put mining under “essential services” category. The mine, located in Val-d’Or, Quebec, was put on care and maintenance on 23rd March in compliance with government-imposed restrictions to prevent spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
The company press release said that the mine will operate by ensuring that all restrictions including social distancing is followed. All safety protocols, including temperature screening, isolation facilities etc., will be in place. Furthermore, the company staffs have been provided necessary training in these updated protocols, it said.

Commenting on the restart of mine operations, George Burns, President and CEO, Eldorado Gold said that safety of its employees remains the top priority for the company. The mine operations will continue to create long term value for its shareholders, he added.
Eldorado Gold had acquired the Lamaque mining asset almost 18 months back. It had recently achieved commercial production at the mine. The company expects gold production of 125,000oz-135,000oz in 2020 and 2021 from the mine, whose initial mine life is estimated to be around seven years.
