Tata Steel's India and Europe Operations Impacted by COVID-19
The four steelmaking blast furnaces in the region are reportedly operating at reduced capacities.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Tata Steel announced that the outbreak of COVID-19 has impacted the company’s business and operations across India and Europe. The company has decided to cut operations at some of its facilities.
According to company press release, the 21-day nationwide lockdown announced by the Indian government has had minimal impacts on its mining operations. However, the integrated steelmaking facilities in Jamshedpur, Kalinganagar Angul and Gamahria have seen cutback in production and reduced operating schedules. Meantime, Tata Steel has ordered to put the operations at its downstream facilities on care and maintenance mode.
The shipments to customers have also been impacted due to widespread shutdowns across its customer base including automotive and construction industry.
The Tata Steel European operations have announced various precautionary measures, in line with guidelines by countries in the region, as part of reducing risks of exposing employees to the deadly virus. Following shutdowns by several major automakers, Tata Steel has reduced production at certain European mills to match with the lower demand situation. The four steelmaking blast furnaces in the region are reportedly operating at reduced capacities.
