ISRI Demands Regulatory Relief in Transportation of Metals
It must be noted that the FMCSA had granted relief for transportation of plastics and paper, through a declaration made on 18th March, 2020.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) has filed a petition before the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration (FMCSA), seeking regulatory relief in transporting ferrous and nonferrous metals. It must be noted that the FMCSA had granted relief for transportation of plastics and paper, through a declaration made on 18th March, 2020.
According to ISRI, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has already recognized manufacturing industry including iron and steel mills as part of critical manufacturing sector. The U.S. iron and steel industry depends on ferrous scrap as the primary raw material for steel production in mills. Any disruption in supply of scrap will lead to production halt at steel mills, which manufacture steel that is considered essential for critical construction activities during this critical time, ISRI noted.
