WestRock Mill Declares Major Upgrades to Paper Machine
The new system provides easy accessibility to all parts, which in turn is expected to reduce production interruptions during planned and unplanned maintenance.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): WestRock Company has announced new project to upgrade the paper machine at its Longview, Washington paper mill. According to company news release, the paper machine 12 (PM 12) at the mill will undergo replacement of its dry end dry system.
The project involves significant upgrades to the paper machine’s drives and motors, apart from installation of new control system. Technology leader ABB has been chosen for the project. Accordingly, ABB will install its proprietary ABB Ability System 800xA control system.

The new system provides easy accessibility to all parts, which in turn is expected to reduce production interruptions during planned and unplanned maintenance. The new system will have minimal footprints. The installation and commissioning of the new project is expected to complete by end-2020.
Commenting on the upgrade, Steve St. Jarre, Head of Business Development, Pulp and Paper, Process Industries, ABB noted that the company was chosen for the project based on WestRock’s positive experience with the company’s drives system at Longview as well as other WestRock mill sites.
