U.S. Raw Steel Output Posted Marginal Decline
The cumulative U.S. raw steel production through March 14, 2020 totalled 20.131 million net tons.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. domestic steel mills reported weekly raw steel production of 1.878 million net tons in the week ended March 14, 2020, down by 1.8% when compared with the same week a year before. The production had totalled 1.913 million net tons during the week ended March 14, 2019.
The weekly production recorded marginal decline by 1.3% over the prior week. The U.S. steel mill production had totalled 1.903 million net tons during the week ending March 7, 2020.

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the domestic steel mills reported capability utilization rate of 80.5% during the recent week. The rate is significantly lower when matched with 82.2% a year before and 81.6% in the prior week.
The cumulative U.S. raw steel production through March 14, 2020 totalled 20.131 million net tons, which is modestly higher from the previous year production which had totalled 20.055 million net tons.
The largest producer was the Southern region with an output of approximately 707,000 net tons, closely followed by Great Lakes with 689,000 net tons. The output by the other regions was: North East (225,000 net tons), Midwest (202,000 net tons) and Western (55,000 net tons).
