ISRI Abandons Annual Convention Over Pandemic
Meantime, ISRI is currently reviewing alternatives to the Convention, including possibilities of rescheduling it to another date or to a different venue.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) announced its decision to cancel the Annual Convention and Exposition scheduled to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada in late-April this year. The decision is based on growing concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.
In a letter to industry members, ISRI chair Brian Shine stated that it is impossible for the trade group to hold the convention as planned, especially after the World Health Organization (WHO) officially declaring it as a pandemic. Many states have declared emergency and it believes that is advisable to avoid large gathering which expects participation of delegates from across several countries, he said.
Meantime, ISRI is currently reviewing alternatives to the Convention, including possibilities of rescheduling it to another date or to a different venue. It is also looking at other modes of information delivery, including video teleconference, which some other industries and commodity groups have already tried successfully. This will be communicated to members and industry colleagues in due course.
The annual recycling meet was expecting over 5,000 participants associated with recycling of materials such as scrap metal, plastic, paper and many more.
