China Publishes Fourth Batch of Scrap Import Quotas

The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) reported that the Solid Waste & Chemicals Management Centre of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment in China has announced publication of additional batch of import quotas. This is the fourth batch of waste import quotas for 2020.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) reported that the Solid Waste & Chemicals Management Centre of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment in China has announced publication of additional batch of import quotas. This is the fourth batch of waste import quotas for 2020.

The new batch, published on March 7, 2020, allows for imports of 3,520 metric tons of copper scrap, 100 metric tons of aluminum scrap, 170 metric tons of steel scrap and 6,460 metric tons of paper scrap to enter the country. The approved ports of entry for the above scrap materials are Ningbo, Shanghai, Xinhui, Nansha, South China Sea Port and Wuzhou Port Shore.

Till date this year, a total of 284,549 metric tons of aluminum scrap imports have been permitted. The permitted ferrous scrap and recovered fiber imports totalled 5,120 metric tons and 3.22 million metric tons respectively. Also, a total of 3.22 million metric tons have been approved by the Chinese Ministry during the year-to-date period in 2020, which is equivalent to almost 55% of the total import quotas for copper scrap in the entire year 2019.

The third batch of quotas, permitting imports of 4,620 metric tons of copper scrap, 1,440 metric tons of aluminum scrap, 2,670 metric tons of steel scrap and 22,750 metric tons of paper scrap was issued in early-February this year.
