DS Smith's Sale of Recycled Paper for Bags Skyrocketed 400%

The studies predict further significant market growth to happen between now and 2023.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Packaging major DS Smith announced substantial increase in sale of recycled paper for manufacturing bags. This is primarily attributed to reduced use of plastic bags and the switch to paper bags due to environmental reasons.

According to figures published by the company, the sales of paper for shopping bags have skyrocketed by 400% over the past three years. The DS Smith Kemsley paper mill alone reported supplies of paper for manufacturing approximately 400 million paper bags. Also, DS Smith’s e-commerce packaging site reported 262% jump in orders for recyclable paper bags in the three month period ahead of Black Friday.

The company foresees considerable growth in demand for recyclable paper from bag manufacturers in the forthcoming years as well. Recent studies too have hinted at booming paper bag market. The studies predict further significant market growth to happen between now and 2023.

Ben Jennings, General Manager at DS Smith Kemsley Paper Mill noted that the company has witnessed significant interest in sustainable packaging solutions over the past three years. The company’s paper contains 80% recycled content and that it is working with customers on alternative innovative solutions in replacement for single-use plastics.
