ArcelorMittal Warren Facility Wins International Safety Certification
ISO 45001 replaces OSHAS 18001, which is due to retire in 2021.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The ArcelorMittal Warren coke plant achieved the prestigious ISO 45001 certification for its safety management control systems. It is the first ArcelorMittal USA facility to achieve the international safety designation. Incidentally, ISO 45001 is a voluntary certification that helps control risks at site, ensuring safety of anyone working at site.
The certification is the result of almost a year of hard work by the joint health and safety team from the management and the union. Alongside, the facility has also earned ISO 14001 certificate for environmental management systems.
ISO 45001 replaces OSHAS 18001, which is due to retire in 2021. Accordingly, all of ArcelorMittal’s USA facilities will transition to the new ISO 45001 certification standard, as the current OSHAS certifications expire.
Commenting on the achievement, Joe Magni, the Warren facility’s operations manager noted that the systems will make Warren a safer place to work. Furthermore, it ensures minimization of impact on the environment. The certification highlights the importance of daily commitment to workplace safety, Magni added.
The ArcelorMittal plant in the City of Warren, in northeastern Ohio, has a coke production capability of 550,000 tons per annum. The plant employs 174 workers.
