Brink Forest Products Ltd. Fined $38K by WorkSafeBC

The fine was levied in response to the inspection carried out at the company premises earlier in July this year.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): A Prince George lumber firm was fined for serious and repeated safety violations at workplace. The provincial statutory agency WorkSafeBC imposed a hefty fine of $37,639.56 on Brink Forest Products Ltd. located on 2023 River Road, Prince George, B.C. The fine was levied in response to the inspection carried out at the company premises earlier in July this year.

During the inspection, the inspector observed two separate safeguards that were left open. One of them was propped open with a garbage can, whereas the other was flipped open. Although the company attended to the violation immediately, it was ordered to conduct an investigation into the cause of the violation.

In addition, the inspector also noticed a third machine, where safeguard was not adequately constructed to protect workers. The firm could not ensure that its machinery was fitted with adequate safeguards in order to make sure that workers have no access to hazardous points of operation. This was a repeated violation, WorkSafe B.C. said.

This is not the first time that the company has been fined for unsafe work environment. In fact, this is the fifth fine faced by the company over the past five years.
