Six Steel Companies Recognized for Excellence in Health and Safety

The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has recognized six leading steelmaking member companies for delivering marked improvements in safety and health by applying worldsteel’s safety and health principles.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has recognized six leading steelmaking member companies for delivering marked improvements in safety and health by applying worldsteel’s safety and health principles. The awards are part of worldsteel Safety and Health Recognition Programme 2019.

Qatar Steel Company (Q.S.C), Qatar won the recognition for Safety Culture and Leadership for its Visible Felt Leadership. Gerdau S.A., Brazil’s committed efforts to prevent fatalities and serious injuries at its plant won the Occupational Safety Management award. Another winner in this category was the Hand Safety Headlight team of Liberty Steel Australia. The third joint winner was Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL), India’s Safety Index, which served as a catalyst for enhancing safety performance.

The Usminas Integrated Health System known as SISU implemented by Usinas Siderúrgicas de Minas Gerais S.A. (USIMINAS), Brazil was selected as the winner under the category ‘Occupational Health Management’. Also, the ‘Process Safety Management’ accolade went to Tata Steel Limited, India for its excellence in managing process safety critical equipment, the worldsteel press release said.

Andrew Purvis, Director, Safety, Health and Environment congratulated the recognized companies. Further he urged other members to emulate the success of these companies, so as to help the industry achieve zero harm.
