Novelis Launches New Innovation Hub at Georgia Tech, Atlanta

The company also committed $2.5 million to promote transformational research and related educational endeavors at Georgia Tech.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Atlanta-headquartered aluminum rolling and recycling major Novelis, Inc. decided to collaborate with the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) to establish a new innovation hub at Georgia Tech. The hub will focus on innovative research initiatives by connecting Novelis’ technical and business innovators with the Institute’s students and faculty.

According to company press release, Georgia Tech will recruit a senior faculty member to serve as the Director of the Novelis Innovation Hub. The director will take charge by 2020 academic year. The company also committed $2.5 million to promote transformational research and related educational endeavors at Georgia Tech.

As per agreement, Novelis will either identify sponsored research or provide a list of innovation needs. The Georgia Tech faculty will be invited to offer proposals, which will be evaluated by an advisory board comprising of members of both the entities. The approved proposals will receive funding from Novelis as well as other external agencies.

The new partnership will provide the opportunity to train a new generation of the best and brightest students on Novelis’ scientific, engineering and business innovations, in order to develop new industry-leading solutions. Todd Summe, Chief Research and Development Officer, Novelis, Inc. stated that establishing closer ties with Georgia Tech will provide tremendous benefits for both the students and the company.
