India's Ambitious Plan to Triple Steel Output, Led by Eastern States
The mineral rich eastern states of West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand will be the main contributors to steel production growth.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The steel production in the country is set to achieve the ambitious target of 300 million tonnes by 2030, as envisaged by the National Steel Policy (NSP) 2017, said Indian Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The mineral rich eastern states of West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand will be the main contributors to steel production growth, he noted. The comments were made during his visit to the public sector steel plants and mines in the region. The Minister stated that the eastern region of the country hold immense potentials.

On his visit to the state of Jharkhand, the Minister discussed plans for creation of steel clusters in the region, by developing Bokaro Steel Plant as a steel hub. He ordered to initiate necessary actions to boost development of mines including Gua mines, Kiriburu iron ore mines, Mehgahatuburu iron ore mine and Bolani mine, so as to ensure uninterrupted iron ore supply for Steel Authority of India (SAIL) steel plants.
