CMC Makes Big Boost to Recycled Steel Rebar Capacity at Mesa, Arizona Facility

The facility upgrades have resulted in creation of around 60 new jobs, thus making the total employee strength at Mesa facility to nearly 260.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Commercial Metals Company announced major expansion to its facility in Mesa, Arizona. The steel producer officially inaugurated the new 5,850 square metre addition to the facility.

The expansion also involved commissioning of a new manufacturing line to produce spooled steel rebars of various dimensions, mainly from recycled scrap metal. The facility upgrades have resulted in creation of around 60 new jobs, thus making the total employee strength at Mesa facility to nearly 260. It must be noted that the company has invested approximately $75 million in the facility ever since opened the facility way back in 2009.

According to Barbara Smith, chief operating officer, Commercial Metals Co., the expansion will provide significant boost to the East valley economy. John Giles, Mesa Mayor noted that CMC’s ongoing commitment to innovation and latest technology makes them an industry leader in steel production, fabrication and recycling.

Mesa facility produces rebars and T-posts, by using recycled scrap as raw material rather than virgin natural resources. The ‘environmentally responsible micro mill’ operations reduce carbon dioxide emissions by as much as 58%. The electric arc furnace mill uses continuous process micro mill technology.

The expansion has allowed CMC to grow its footprint in the region, by adopting latest technology changes. In addition to creating high-quality jobs, the expanded Mesa facility now offers numerous efficiencies for its existing and new customers.
