EACOM Timber Declares 100th Anniversary Celebrations at Timmins Sawmill
The grand event to celebrate the important milestone will be held at Bozzer Park on Friday, May 31 beginning at 11:30 a.m.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Timmins sawmill, currently owned by EACOM Timber Corp. announced grand celebration of its 100th anniversary. Incidentally, this is Timmins’ oldest and longest-running sawmill.
The grand event to celebrate the important milestone will be held at Bozzer Park on Friday, May 31 beginning at 11:30 a.m. and running through the balance of the day. The event comprises of barbecue, games, children’s activities, and a friendly softball tournament. Before the event, EACOM will conduct a mill tour for dignitaries including Ontario Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry John Yakabuski. The tour will highlight the technological advancements at the mill, as compared to 50 or 100 years ago.
Julie Paquet, Communications Director for EACOM Timber Corporation stated that the company is proud to operate a mill that has been an integral part of the community for long hundred years. Everybody in town has some sort of connection with the mill, she said. The celebration event is free and is open to public, she added. She invited public to join the party. The community event will also feature historic displays, which will include photographs of the mill from early days, said Marc Fleury, Timmins mill manager.
EACOM purchased the Timmins sawmill in June 2010. Prior to that, the mill was owned by E.B. Eddy Forest Products and Domtar. It is better known by the name McChesney mill to many in the community.
