SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Chinese Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) announced that it would start accepting import license applications for scrap materials including aluminum and copper scrap by late May this year. The applications would pertain to imports during the second half of 2019. The announcement to this effect was made by MEE official while speaking at the conference hosted by the CMRA Recycling Metal Branch in Ningbo on April 19th.
According to MEE official, the submitted license applications will go through a through scrutiny to ensure that they are in line with the relevant guidelines mentioned in the MEE regulatory code.
Henceforth, the agency plans to make strict examination of the local importing firms rather than scrutinizing the overseas exporter. The MEE will ensure that the Chinese importers have the necessary capacity to handle the imported materials. The importing companies are required to submit electronic application detailing the site facilities and procedures to handle the imported waste and environmental safeguards to protect pollution.
