The IJmuiden plant uses advanced analytics to optimize the way raw materials are used and to increase the yield at various stages of steelmaking process.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The World Economic Forum (WEF) has inducted additional seven factories into its community of “Manufacturing Lighthouses”- distinguished manufacturing facilities that are identified as leaders in technologies of the ‘Fourth Industrial Revolution’. Tata Steel’s steel manufacturing facility in IJmuiden, the Netherlands is one among them.
The IJmuiden plant uses advanced analytics to optimize the way raw materials are used and to increase the yield at various stages of steelmaking process. The use of analytics has resulted in significant improvement in product quality. Also, the plant hosts the best-in-class logistics facilities. The use of technology across its value chain has helped the facility to gain competitive advantage.
Han Fischer, CEO, Tata Steel-Europe said that the company is honored to be recognized by WEF. He dedicated the achievement to advanced analytics team's vision and the innovative thinking and commitment of its employees.
The other six new “Lighthouses” are BMW Group’s Regensburg Plant in Germany; Danfoss Commercial Compressors Plant in Tianjin, China; Foxconn in Shenzhen, China; Rold in Cerro Maggorie, Italy; Sandvik Coromant in Gimo, Sweden and Saudi Aramco’s Uthmaniya Gas Plant in Saudi Arabia.
The Lighthouse programme has been designed to promote adoption of cutting-edge technologies by industries and manufacturing facilities. It creates a common platform that enables knowledge-sharing by members.
