By joining hands with KAB, the industry will ensure increased participation of communities in improving recycling in America.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The global steel industry will highlight its ongoing commitment to recycling during the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo to be held in Chicago, Ill. from November 14-16, 2018. The meet will conduct events and celebrations to highlight steel’s importance as the most recycled material in the world, in partnership with organizations such as Keep America Beautiful (KAB) and Steel Recycling Institute (SRI).
The industry plans to celebrate America Recycles Day on November 15, 2018 by highlighting steel industry’s commitment to recycling. By joining hands with KAB, the industry will ensure increased participation of communities in improving recycling in America. The three-day conference will organize various individual events to educate people on the importance of steel recycling.
The Greenbuild Conference will also celebrate the 30th anniversary of SRI, which has been in the forefront for many long years in promoting recycling of various steel products. Incidentally, SRI has been an integral part of America Recycles Day since its inception.
Mark Thimons, vice president of sustainability, Steel Market Development Institute (SMDI) noted that volume of recycled steel exceeds those of aluminum, paper, plastic and glass combined. In addition, steel could be recycled unlimited number of times. He urged public to promote recycling of steel products, which in turn could result in substantial reduction of environmental footprint, Thimons added.
