Samsung Partners with BAN to Adopt State-of-the-Art E-waste Tracking System

EarthEye is the end result of research and developments carried out by BAN for more than ten years.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Samsung- the South Korean multinational conglomerate announced that it has entered into a partnership with Seattle-based Basel Action Network (BAN) to adopt EarthEye- the new GPS-based tracking system for discarded electronic waste. This will ensure that the unprocessed e-waste is not exported to developing countries, but instead is processed locally.

Mark Newton, Samsung’s Director of Regulatory and Environmental Affairs noted that the company is committed to the use of innovative technologies to keep the supply and disposition chains accountable. The addition of EarthEye would help the company to maintain the most rigorous due diligence and standards for responsible recycling. The e-Stewards certification as well as the company policy prevents Samsung from exporting e-waste to outside countries, he added.

EarthEye is the end result of research and developments carried out by BAN for more than ten years. EarthEye is far more than a simple GPS tracker. The user-friendly system is capable of reliably monitoring the international e-waste industry. The precise GPS location data, sent every 24 hours, provides assurance to clients that the disposed of electronics are tracked to ensure that it ends up in right places.

Incidentally, Fresno, California-based ERI was the first company to adopt the EarthEye tracking system.
