Copper Waste and Scrap Exports Surged 32%: US Census Bureau
Canada received $119.67 million worth copper waste and scrap from the US during Jan-Apr ‘18.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The monthly trade statistics released by the US Census Bureau suggests that the US exports of copper waste and scrap surged higher by 32% through April this year to touch $1.13 billion. Meantime, the imports recorded 14% year-over-year jump during this period.
The top export destination of copper waste and scrap from the US was China. Nearly 60% of total US shipments were to China. The exports to China surged higher by 29% over the previous year to total $667.86 million.
Canada received $119.67 million worth copper waste and scrap from the US during Jan-Apr ‘18. The country accounted for nearly 11% share of total US exports. The exports to Canada witnessed 16% jump year-on-year. In third place was Germany with imports from the US amounting to $59.51 million. The country registered 44% jump in import volumes over the previous year. The other key importers were South Korea ($57.35 million) and Japan ($41.57 million).

The cumulative imports by the above five top-importing nations totaled $945.96 million out of $1.130 billion, thereby representing nearly 84% of all exports by the US during the opening four months in 2018.
The imports of copper waste and scrap registered notable jump during the first four months of the current year. The imports were up by 14% to total $278.87 million during this period. The imports were valued at $244.6 million during the corresponding four-month period in 2017.
The top exporter of copper waste and scrap to the US was Canada. The imports from Canada totaled $184.17 million. The imports from the Mexico and Venezuela totaled $65.38 million and $7.28 million respectively. Panama ($4.25 million) and Colombia ($2.36 million) were the other primary exporters of copper waste and scrap to the US. The above five countries were responsible for almost 95% of the total receipts by the US during the first four months of 2018.
