Iraqi Kurdistan Gold imports rise sharply in Jan-July

Iraqi Kurdistan gold imports reached 34 tons in the first seven months of this year, according to the statistics of Directorate of quality control of gold jewelry in Kurdistan.

BAGHDAD (Scrap Monster): Iraqi Kurdistan gold imports reached 34 tons in the first seven months of this year, according to the statistics of Directorate of quality control of gold jewelry in Kurdistan.

A surge in the number of jewellery and gold stores in Kurdistan region has pushed gold imports during the January to July this year. Over the period, 47 jewellery stores were opened in the three cities of Erbil, Sulaimaniyah and Duhok, said Bakir Aziz, head of the Jewellery Control.

The current number of gold stores in the semi-autonomous region has reached 1359.

Gold imports into the Kurdistan Region are mainly from Turkey and Arab countries in the Persian Gulf.

Kurdistan regiona imported around 17 tons of gold and more than five tons of silver last year.

The citizens of Kurdistan mainly interested in gold and especially women resorted to many people in the store instead of cash.
