World's Top Producers of Steel and DRI in July 2017
Iran continued to be the leading DRI producer with estimated output of 1.585 Mt.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): According to latest statistics published by the World Steel Association, the world crude steel output by 67 countries reporting to the Association totaled 143.245 Million tonnes during July this year. The monthly output surged higher by 6.3% when compared with the output during the same month a year before. These 67 countries had accounted for approximately 99% of the total world crude steel production in 2016.
The following table lists world’s top ten nations with regards to total crude steel output during the month of July this year.

DRI Output
The preliminary data published by the World Steel Association indicates that the world direct reduced iron (DRI) production in July this year has increased modestly by nearly 5% over the previous month. The production totaled 5.114 million metric tons (Mt), as compared with 4.878 Mt during the month prior to that.
Iran continued to be the leading DRI producer with estimated output of 1.585 Mt. The country’s output surged higher when compared with 1.534 Mt during the previous month. India’s DRI output totaled 1.234 Mt, reporting marginal increase from 1.220 Mt in June. The Mexican DRI output in July this year amounted to 540,000 metric tons, which is slightly higher than 521,000 metric tons output recorded during the month prior to that. The monthly output by other eleven DRI producing countries are: Canada (143), Saudi Arabia (500), Trinidad & Tobago (Nil), Argentina (85), Peru (Nil), Venezuela (50), Egypt (302), Libya (30), South Africa (60), Qatar (235) and United Arab Emirates (350).

The World Steel production figures are based on the figures collected from 14 countries, which accounted for approximately 85% of the global DRI production in 2015.
