2015 Innovation in Plastics Recycling Award winners announced
The American Chemistry Council (ACC) has announced the winners of the 2015 Innovation in Plastics Recycling Award.
SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): The Washington-based American Chemistry Council (ACC) has announced the winners of the 2015 Innovation in Plastics Recycling Award. The winners of the prestigious award are Demilec Inc., Publix Super Markets and The Recycling Partnership. The award recognizes new technologies, products and initiatives that contribute to significant improvements in plastic recycling techniques.
Steve Russell, Vice President-Plastics, ACC noted that the three organizations who are being selected for the award are leaders in recycling innovation and have been acknowledged for their contributions to the rapidly growing plastics recycling sector.
Arlington, Texas-based Demilec Inc. converts PET scrap into polyols, which are widely used in spray foam insulation products. In October 2014, the company had hit a major milestone by recycling 300 millionths plastic bottle. Moreover, the company has set a high target of recycling 35 million plastic bottles into open-cell and closed-cell spray-foam insulation and coating products during 2015. Moreover, these products help to make buildings more energy-efficient by providing high recycling values.
Publix Super Markets, Inc., commonly known as Publix, is an employee-owned, American supermarket chain based in Lakeland, Florida. Publix operates throughout the Southeast, with locations in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, and North Carolina. The Lakeland, Florida-based Super Market chain is a leader is recycling rigid plastic packaging such as HDPE and PP containers. It produces large, dense bales of clean plastic material for recycling.
The Recycling Partnership focuses on improving residential recycling. The Partnership has distributed over 115,000 recycling carts over the past 15 months and has carried out extensive educational campaigns amongst residents. As a result of these efforts, it aims to recover additional 22 million pounds of plastics over the next 10 years.
