CHARLOTTE (Scrap Monster): The firefighters have brought under control, a fire in scrap recycling plant on Patton Avenue, Greensboro.
According to media reports, the fire was reported at around 3.30 pm at the Re Community recycling plant located on 706, Patton Ave. The fire started in bales of paper stored in the plant’s warehouse facility. Greensboro police was immediately informed, said company sources.
Greensboro Fire Chief Clarence Hunter stated that the fire generated huge quantities of smoke. The building was soon evacuated. The firefighters arrived at the site and brought the flames under control shortly. The 15 odd bales which caught fire are now being broken and soaked in water so as to prevent fresh eruption of fire.
Greensboro police temporarily blocked the road in both directions from Elm-Eugene to Martin Luther King Blvd. Patton Avenue from Elm-Eugene to MLK was also blocked due to presence of fire trucks in the area. Latest media reports indicate that the roads are now reopened.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. No injuries have been reported so far.
