ARLINGTON (Scrap Monster): Fire broke out at CMC Steel Texas early morning Thursday around 7.00 AM. The company officials, who identified the fire, initiated action to control the fire on a pile of scrap metal and contacted local fire department immediately.
Fire crews from Seguin Fire department were assisted by crews from Schertz, Marion, McQueeney, New Braunfels, New Berlin and Randolph Air Force Base. It took almost 15 hours for the firefighters before it was put out by around 10.00 PM.
According to Fire officials, a pile of scrap 30 feet high and an acre wide had caught fire. The fire is isolated from people and equipment. There are no buildings in the surrounding area. Company officials claimed that there is no threat to human health or environment.
The Guadalupe County Emergency Management has cautioned nearby residents having respiratory issued to avoid the smoke.
The cause of the fire is still unknown and is under investigation.
