Car explosion sparks huge fire in Halls recycling facility
A huge fire broke out at the scrap yard of a Halls scrap metal recycling facility
SPOKANE (Scrap Monster): A huge fire broke out at the scrap yard of a Halls scrap metal recycling facility. According to media reports, the fire fighters used excavators to remove the piles of scrap to extinguish the fire deep under the piles.
The fire occurred at Right Way Recycling site at 3700 Shotsman Lane, off Maynardville Highway, in the Halls community. According to Rural Metro Fire officials, the fire was reported at around 3.30 PM Wednesday June 4th.
The fire sent thick black smoke into the surrounding air, but is believed to have caused little damage.
Five fire-engines and 20 fire fighters from Rural Metro attended to the fire. According to media reports, the fire is now under control.
As per initial reports, there were no injuries or casualties.
Although the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation by authorities, sources believe that a car explosion at the recycling centre sparked the fire. According to a worker, the car which the company had purchased recently for scrap had exploded for unknown reasons. There were no workers inside the car. The fire from the explosion soon spread to other scrap cars and appliances stored in the yard.
