Fire reported at Starke County scrap yard

NEW YORK (Scrap Monster): A large fire broke out at a scrap yard in Starke County Thursday evening.

Every fire department in the county was called in to help put out this one.

The call came in around 5:30pm.

A woman was driving by the scrap yard in Knox at the corner of US35 and Toto Road. Michelle Felda called 911 and then started taking video with her phone.

Crews at the scene say flames were shooting as high as the tree line and could be seen as far away as the Knox fertilizer plant. The building was destroyed.

One firefighter was reportedly injured and taken to the hospital. The extent of their injuries is not known.

No word on a cause.

Fire officials say this isn't the first time crews have responded to C & C Salvage. They've apparently put out fires in the back before, but none have been this large.
